Road Safety Initiative by l’Horizon and Police

On Friday May 28, 2010 between 1200-1800 hrs at Horizon High School located at 1650 Valley View Rd, Val Caron Members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service will be partnering with students from Horizon High School in an effort to make our highways safer. During the campaign all motorists observed violating the posted speed limit will be stopped by Police. If the violation is under a set speed, the motorist will be given the opportunity in lieu of an Offence Notice to listen to an educational speech prepared and presented by Horizon Highschool Students.
The speech will contain information on the dangers speeding poses to our community. The partnership between the Police and Students hope this initiative will help reduce the amount of collisions, injuries and deaths on our roadways.

Important not to abuse 911

On Sunday May 9th, 2010, Sudbury Regional Police received a large number of 911 calls through the day that were of inappropriate use of the 911 phone number. Children playing on the phone, misdialed numbers or people calling to seek information of a non-urgent matter were all but one of the 911 calls received through the day.
The 911 phone number should not be misused as it ties up this important emergency number compromising Public Safety.
To contact police for non-urgent or non-emergency information or complaints, the public are reminded to use 675-9171. A call taker will refer you to the appropriate department. Emergency calls should still use 911.
Education of children to the importance of not calling 911 inappropriately is important.

Capreol Ski Hill Closed For The 2009-2010 Season

The City of Greater Sudbury advises residents that Capreol Ski Hill is now closed to the public for the 2009-2010 season.
