Sudbury & District Health Unit Offers H1n1 Flu Vaccine To General Public

Effective today,  Thursday, November 19, the H1N1 flu vaccine will be available throughout the Sudbury & District Health Unit’s catchment area to everyone over six months of age.

Previous delays in the supply of H1N1 flu vaccine meant that the Health Unit had to postpone community clinics. Today the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care announced that it anticipates being able to provide health units with larger quantities of vaccine over the coming weeks.

The Sudbury & District Health Unit is revising its schedule of community clinics and updates will be posted on its website at Appointments are not required at the community clinics.

Currently scheduled community clinics are:

  • Rainbow Centre, Sudbury: Saturday, November 21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Lionel E. Lalonde Centre, Azilda: Friday, November 27,

8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Please note that the following previously scheduled community clinics have been cancelled:

  • Garson Community Centre Hall, November 19
  • Massey Community Arena, November 19

The H1N1 flu vaccine is also available by appointment at any of the Health Unit’s office locations through extended hours. Many health care providers and walk-in clinics have the vaccine, and the Health Unit is also running school-based clinics.

To date, the Health Unit has administered over 17 000 doses of the H1N1 flu vaccine and has distributed over 23 000 doses to hospitals, health care providers, walk-in clinics, and First Nations.

“It’s important to remember that the flu season lasts all winter long, and that the best protection against this new flu virus is to get your flu shot,” said Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, Sudbury & District Medical Officer of Health. “This vaccine provides an excellent immune response,” she added.
