Local accident leads to charges being laid

On Friday the 5th of February 2010, at around 9:14, Greater Sudbury Police responded to motor vehicle collision on M.R. 80 between Centennial Drive and Frost Street in the Hanmer area. A grey 2002 Saturn travelling North bound had rear-ended a 2000 Ford Explorer. After investigation, a breath demand was made to the driver of the Saturn.
The male failed to provide a breath sample to officers and the male was subsequently arrested and charged with this offence as well as Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Officers also found an open bottle of beer in the cup holder beside the driver. The driver will appear in court to answer to these charges.
It should be noted that this accident occurred near the same location where three area youths were tragically killed last year. The Greater Sudbury Police Service reminds the public that RIDE checks will be continued throughout 2010. Impaired driving will not be tolerated and in some instances can result in tragic consequences.
